What is a Room Parent?
A room parent is a support to the class teacher for the duration of the academic year. Duties include:
- Being the point person for calling families in the class when emergency dismissals are necessary
- Coordinating class celebrations (e.g. Thanksgiving Feast)
- Organizing class raffle baskets and collecting monetary donations (e.g. year-end teacher gifts)
- Providing ad-hoc help to teachers as required (for example, simple administrative tasks)
The room parent position mostly entails sending emails so is ideal for working parents or homemakers alike. Each classroom in Placentino and Miller has a room parents and a co-room parent to share responsibilities.
