Director of Communications Role Description

The Board of Directors is responsible for their committee responsibilities and attending Board Meetings. The Board governs the PTO by creating and voting on action items and expenses related to school events and programs.

Timeframe: Year-round, 1-2 year term (preferably 2), with option to continue

Description: The Director of Communications oversees PTO Social Media, Email communications, and the PTO website. This role works closely with the other Board members and committee chairs to ensure the website, social media and newsletter are accurate and updated in a timely manner. This role is responsible for creating and distributing the PTO Newsletter, maintaining the Constant Contact database, and updating the PTO website. The director shall assist with creating and distributing publicity for programs and special events.

  • Writes and designs content for newsletter, website, print materials and social media

  • Manages PTO Constant Contact email database - adding new subscribers, updating email lists, uploading “opt-in” email addresses from school district Technology Director

  • Sends communications via Constant Contact system on behalf of PTO members and committees for relevant events as needed

  • First line of response for PTO gmail box in partnership with Treasurer, escalates inquiries to appropriate PTO member

  • Updates PTO website

  • Coordinates with Social Media Manager
