PTO President Role Description

The Board of Directors is responsible for their committee responsibilities and attending Board Meetings. The Board governs the PTO by creating and voting on action items and expenses related to school events and programs.

Timeframe: Year-round, 1-2 year term (preferably 2), with option to continue

Description: The President oversees the direction and activities of the PTO and presides at all Board meetings and Townwide meetings.  The President shall be a member ex-officio of all committees and may delegate duties and tasks as needed. The President is a liaison between the PTO, the school Principal, and the administration. The President helps the school and the PTO operate as a cohesive unit.

  • The PTO President primarily presides PTO Townwide meetings of PTO officers and PTO Board meetings. This includes scheduling Board meetings as needed and creating agendas for Townwide and Board meetings.

  • Coordinates between the activities and events within the PTO that are run by experienced officers and committee event chairpeople, but does not have to be involved in them unless they choose to do so.

  • Sets event schedule with school administration in June for the upcoming school year.

  • Helps at various PTO events as needed.

  • Also serves as the primary contact for school administrators.
